13 and Pat

My very first college roommate came to visit NYC and stayed with us while she was here (for the purpose of touring Columbia's Teacher's College). I got to hang out with her on Saturday night and catch up after many many years... we went to see 13 on Broadway- a cute show. It's a cast of 13 kids that are all 13 years old. The synopsis from the website is this:

When his parents get divorced and he's forced to move from New York to a small town in Indiana, Evan Goldman just wants to make friends and survive the school year. Easier said than done. The star quarterback is threatening to ruin his life and his only friend, Patrice, won't talk to him. The school freak sees an opportunity for blackmail and someone is spreading the nastiest rumors. With an unforgettable rock score from Tony Award-winning composer Jason Robert Brown, "13" is a hilarious, high-energy musical for all ages about discovering that cool is where you find it, and sometimes where you least expect it.

I enjoyed it. High energy. Talented kids. And, c'mon. One of the main characters is named Kendra and there's a whole song called "Hey, Kendra". How could I not like it? I laughed pretty hard and really enjoyed seeing it with Pat, who just has a sunny disposition and is fun to be around. She's the kind of person who, even though I haven't seen her for years and years, we can just pick up right where we left off and have a grand old time together. I wish she'd choose to attend Columbia just so I could see her more often!
